Jesse Crichton's Ride to Conquer Cancer
Many know Jesse Crichton as a ruthless WAFL player, with extraordinary skill on the ball and an ability to lock down some of the best players in the competition.
He may be ferocious when he puts on a jersey, but many are unaware of Jesse Crichton off the field.
Whilst his fellow Sharks will be enjoying their time during the off-season, Jesse will be training hard for the Ride To Conquer Cancer, with his partner Nicola-Kate Dodson.
Over two days, riders cover more than 200kms throughout Western Australia to raise much-needed funds for the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research.
Having seen firsthand the harsh realities cancer patients endure, Jesse said it’s his way of helping someone in the same position.
“My mum got diagnosed last year with bowel cancer, she had walk around with a bag on her waist so it was pretty hard. I was over here so there wasn’t much I could do to help her,” he said.
Thankfully, Jesse’s mum has now been cleared, but the cause remains close to his heart, with a good friend currently battling Leukaemia.
“I think it’s just about helping someone else in the same position, to raise some money so somebody else can get through it too,” Jesse explained.
The two enjoy riding on Sunday mornings and Monday (if there’s no footy training) and thought this would be an excellent way to contribute.
“I love to cycle and don’t mind wearing lycra,” Jesse said, laughing.
To enter, riders must raise $2,500. If you would like to donate to help Jesse and Nicola achieve their goals and help the lives of many in the process please visit…
