Carter set to debut in must win match
East Fremantle will be determined for a win this Saturday as they return from the bye to take on Perth at Lathlain Park at the regular time of 2:15pm
The Sharks are looking to avenge a disappointing loss from round 14, which saw the Demons win a thrilling 11-point game.
Following their week off, Sharks defender Sam Read said the team is aware they need to finish the home and away season strong to keep their finals hopes alive.
“We are well aware that if we want to play finals we need to win every game moving forward,” Read said.
“We trained last Saturday rather than having a week off, Rob thought it was important that we stay close as a group.
“They [Perth] have a really strong midfield, they run hard and they’d be pretty confident because they’ve been playing some really good footy, They beat us last time so we need to get over them and get the win,” he said.
In to the 25 this week comes Tim Bristow, Carl Green, Lewis Krakouer, Andrew Stokes, Dylan Winton and Jeffery Carter, who will make his league debut.
Carter came from Peel at start of the 2015 season seeking greater opportunities and following an inconsistent first year, was able to put together a better pre-season in 2016.
Impressive performances in the Development League this year have earned him a spot in the Shark’s league side.
With a strong leading mark up forward, Carter has kicked 8 goals in the last 3 weeks. His talent was highlighted in round 18 where he kicked 4 goals from just 14 possessions and 10 marks.
Unfortunately for Sharks we may have seen the last of Brock O’Brien in 2016, who is out with a knee injury, leaving the reigning best and fairest winner on 99 league games for the Sharks.
Jack Perham and Fraser Perry have been omitted ahead of tomorrow's game.
After a disappointing loss to Derby rivals South Fremantle before the bye, the Sharks will need to cement a strong win to stay in touch with the top 5.
Both Colts and Development League sides will be hoping to get back to their winning ways this week as the jostling for finals spots heats up.
The Colts, who were competitive against a strong South team for three quarters before being overrun, face a Perth side who are hoping to consolidate top spot. With East Perth winning their game on the weekend, the Sharks slipped back to sixth, just half a game outside the top five.
With a few boys playing sore the past few weeks, the bye last weekend came at a good time, so hopefully the boys are refreshed and ready to take on the biggest of challenges this Saturday.
In to the side comes Ambrose Ryan, who will play his first game since injuring a knee in round 8. The Sharks will be hoping for experienced players in Holmes and Harding to continue recent form, with greater contributions across the board from the rest of the squad.
The Development League boys, like the Colts, were sextremely competitive against South, who are well entrenched in the top five, however a final quarter fade out saw the Sharks eventually go down by just the six points.
The boys will no doubt be looking to bounce back against Perth this Saturday, the side that also over ran the Sharks when they last met in round 14.
Securing a win will almost guarantee the Sharks a finals position, which will be a fantastic result for the boys after a much-improved season 2016.
