Two in two weeks: Sharks AFL debuts
Jarrad Jansen will make his AFL debut for the Brisbane Lions this weekend wearing prestigious number 16 made famous by star forward Jonathon Brown.
The 21 year old was originally drafted to Geelong in 2013, playing only one game with the club in the NAB Cup.
Jansen moved to the Brisbane during the 2015 offseason and will be Lions fourth debutant this year.
The struggling Lions are currently in 16th position on the ladder and hope the young midfielder will be a key player in securing a second win against Carlton on Saturday night.
As a tough inside player, Jansen in known for his ability to apply enormous pressure to his opposition.
He is the fourth East Fremantle star from the 2013 AFL Draft to play at the senior level.
In his first AFL game Jansen is a chance to play against fellow Sharks 2013 draftee Patrick Cripps, who has established himself as a key midfielder for Carlton.
The Club wishes Jarrad all the best on his debut.
Jansen is the second East Fremantle player to make his first AFL appearance in two weeks.
Harry Marsh made his long-awaited debut for the Swans last week, which put an end to North Melbourne’s winning streak.
Drafted in 2012 as pick number 46, Marsh was Sydney’s 6th debutant this year joining fellow East Fremantle product Aliir Aliir.
After being delisted at the end of 2015, The Club threw him a lifeline and re-signed Marsh during the off-season rookie draft.
Standing at 189cm the versatile defender replaced Ted Richards who received a concussion in previous week’s match.
The 22 year old was listed as a travelling emergency against Hawthorn and saw him elevated from the rookie list.
Strong defensive performances in the NEAFL put Marsh in contention for selection against North’s power forwards.
Marsh averaged 13 disposals in his first senior AFL game.
Harry’s younger brother Jonathon was drafted to Collingwood in 2013 and made his debut against Carlton last year.
Jonathon played five AFL games during 2015 and may also play his first game of the season having been listed in Collingwood’s side against Port Adelaide.
Originally from Margaret River, Harry and Jonathon Marsh are the grandchildren of East Fremantle Legend Ray Sorrell.
