R2 Reserves Match Day Review
R2 Reserves Match Day Review
The East Fremantle Reserves went down to Swan Districts on Saturday by 25 points to record their first defeated of the season. In a scrappy encounter, the Sharks wasted multiple opportunities to score and the Black Ducks pulled away in the last quarter to record their 2nd victory and head to the top of the ladder.
East Fremantle kicked with a slight breeze in the first quarter, and despite have plenty of looks to score, were let down by poor skill execution inside 50. In an even quarter, Swans took a 1 point lead into quarter time. Jackson McDonald (10 disposals) and Cody Leggett (7 touches and a goal) were providing some drive through the middle while Josh Cripps was having an impact around the ground in the ruck.
Swans came out of the blocks in the 2nd quarter with 2 quick goals, before the Sharks responded with 2 of their own to even things up again. After Swans again opening up a handy 14 point lead, Ira Jetta capitalised on some excellent forward pressure just before half time to reduce the margin back to 8 points. McDonald was again finding plenty of the ball, with another 10 disposals and 20 at half time, supported by Jack Walsh and Orien Kerr.
In the pivotal 3rd quarter, the Sharks made all the play to start the quarter but failed to hit the scoreboard, kicking 1.2 to level up the scores. An arm-wrestle ensued before a late Jack Cox goal saw Swans head into the final break with a 13 point lead. Lachlan Blakiston was looking dangerous down forward but not finishing off his work.
The first goal of the last was critical and it was Swans who took full toll on an errant East Fremantle kick across goal to break the game open. The extended the margin to 37 before 2 late goals saw the final result reduced to 25 points.
Better players for the Sharks were Cody Leggett, with 21 disposals and 3 goals, Jackson McDonald, with 30 disposals, 8 clearances and 5 inside 50s, Jack Walsh, with 24 disposals and 7 tackles and Lachlan Blakiston, who had 10 disposals, 5 marks and kicked 2.3.
The Sharks Reserves have a bye this weekend before taking on the red hot Perth Demons at the WACA on April 29th.
