AOS Sharks Futures Round 4 WAFLW Recap
AOS Sharks Futures Round 4 WAFLW Recap
So Close!
The futures team ventured to Leederville Oval yesterday knowing they would be in for a tight tussle against a strong East Perth line up.
The game kicked off with a fast start, with two very quick goals, one from either side. As both sides settled the ball rebounded from end to end , with us holding a slight advantage through the midfield allowing some repetitive forward 50 entries. Unfortunately, our forwards lacked some cohesion, and we were unable to take advantage of the numerous entries, only going to the quarter time break with a 3 point lead.
East Perth gathered some momentum in the 2nd quarter and started to get on top around the ground. This reflected on the scoreboard with them turning at half time 8 points in front.
The 3rd quarter saw momentum swing back our way with us linking up well around the ground and converting on our opportunities. At the 3-quarter time break it was only 2 points between the teams and the game was up for grabs.
The last quarter was a real struggle, with both teams playing some excellent football. Whilst it was moving from end to end with some great team football, both defences stood up well under pressure. A late free kick from a long way out gave us the chance to level the scores, unfortunately we were unable to score and wend down by 1 point.
It was pleasing to see the team stick to their game plan all day and the ability to focus on a team first approach throughout the game was most pleasing.
Some better players on the day were Jake Boniwell up forward and through the midfield , Kayden Wilson was resolute in defence and then provided 3 goals as a small forward in the 2nd half. Riley Clarke battled hard all day as a ruckman and did some great around the ground work.
We now look forward to our Good Friday game this week, 9am against Peel at Lane Group Stadium
