Round 2 Match Report
The Subiaco Lions have defeated a hard-working East Fremantle side at New Choice Homes Park, winning 13.12 (90) to 7.3 (45).
The Sharks mounted a comeback late in the game to reduce the margin to just 27 points one minute into the final term. But the reigning premiers put the game to rest after that, kicking the next 4 goals to extend the margin.
East Fremantle were impressive against the standout side in the competition, kicking four out of five goals either side of three-quarter time to keep the game alive.
Ambrose Ryan led the fightback with 2 majors from 13 disposals while Tom Bennett and Cameron Loersch also kicked goal in what was a dominant 15 minutes for East Fremantle.
Despite the loss, there were a lot of positives for the Sharks. Alex Montauban was impressive on debut while the inclusions of Bailey, Holmes and Adamini all showed glimpses of what the future at Shark Park holds.
Jeremy Sharp kicked his first of many league goals in what was a solid game for the midfielder. Strnadica was dominant in the ruck, recording 37 hitouts and a goal in the absence of captain Jon Griffin.
It was also a milestone game for East Fremantle vice-captain Matthew Jupp, playing his 100th game and deservedly being chaired off the ground by his teammates at the conclusion of the game.
Borchet and Walters combined for 7 goals for Subiaco while ex-Gold Coast Suns midfielder Kyal Horsley had 29 disposals and kicked two goals for the away side.
Next round sees the Sharks take on Peel Thunder at David Grays Arena on Good Friday, with Bill Monaghan’s side looking to repeat the effort shown against Subiaco and register their first win of the 2019 season.
