Northern Regions Colts Carnival Wongan Hills 2018
The 8th Annual Northern Regions Colts Carnival was played over the weekend with 5 teams participating for the Bert McClements Shield.
The teams involved were Avon Football Association, Central Midlands Coastal Football League, Great Northern Football League, Mortlock Football League and North Midlands Football League.
East Fremantle Talent Manager Mark Pashby along with Larry Cavallo Head Coach of the EFFC 15’s & 16’s Development Programme attended the carnival on Saturday & Sunday.
The grand final saw the GNFL play Mortlock, who held a 3-goal advantage at the main break. Relentless running and outstanding pressure in the second half saw the GNFL finish comfortably for their 8th consecutive grand final win.
The GNFL had several exceptional players throughout the weekend. Captain Len Papertalk lead the way with outstanding contested marking and tackling pressure that saw him voted the Fairest & Best player of the Carnival.
Others to impress were Tom Collins and Michael Wright off half back. Darcy Rowe, Gerard McKenna & Lee Hutchins were consistent over the whole carnival as was (VC) William Faithfull who was a standout in the grand final. Kristerfer Ryder up forward was always dangerous kicking goals and was a handful for opposition defenders the entire carnival with his marking and work rate being of the highest order.
Each of the boys played their role, with their use of the ball and selfless style of play, a pleasure to watch. The team was coached exceptionally well by Dave Fiorenza and his assistants who focused on every player making his team mate look better. The team first attitude was obvious, and their ball use was exceptional for a side that has not played or trained together for very long.
11 players from the GNFL made the All Stars Squad of 30.
Tom Collins (Towns), Leon Galby (Mullewa), Gerard McKenna (Chapman Valley), Michael Wright (Chapman Valley), Len Papertalk (Chapman Valley), Kurt Crudeli (Railways), Kristerfer Ryder (Brigades), Darcy Rowe (Mullewa), Lee Hutchins (Brigades), Kaiden Dann (Brigades) and Virien Mourambine (Northampton)
Congratulations to all involved at the GNFL.
