Round 19 Preview // Subiaco

After a week off to recuperate some tired bodies, the Sharks face the toughest challenge in the WAFL this weekend, when they host ladder leaders Subiaco in the ‘Real Men Wear Pink’ round.  The young Sharks are coming off an important win from their last outing, while the Lions are currently on a hot streak, winning their past 15 games since their round 1 loss.  

Into the 25 this week comes Josh Cuneo, Ben Harding, Joel Kalajzic and captain Jamie McNamara. The Shark's injury woes aren't getting any better with Matthew Burton and Josef Hebiton ruled out for the rest of the season, with sternum and knee injuries respectively sustained in the last round. However, the mood remains positive at Shark Park with the continued development of its youngsters.

The two teams met in round 10 and despite Subiaco recording a 31-point win, the Sharks were extremely competitive, even hitting the lead during the third quarter before serious injuries to O’Brien and Hampson left Old Easts short of man power.

Both the Development League and Colts will look to repeat their round 10 wins against the Lions on Saturday.

Despite the bye last week, the Colts remain on top of the ladder, one game clear of the second placed Thunder.  Subiaco have been competitive throughout the colts’ competition and will provide stiff opposition for the Sharks, who will look to hold on to top spot leading in to finals.

A win for the Development League will keep the boys in good stead for the finals. Despite winning only 2 of their past 7 games, The Sharks remain in the top five, in an extremely tight competition- where the top five may not take shape until the final round, therefore every win is crucial.

As part of the “Real Men Wear Pink” round, the boys will be wearing pink socks in honour of the Breast Cancer Awareness Round, with a Get Pinked Marquee at the ground for supporters to get behind the cause.
