Futures Round 1 Wrap Up
After a long-awaited pre-season , our Futures travelled to Steel Blue Oval early on Sunday morning to take on Swans in their round 1 clash.
There was a lot of excitement and nerves within the group , but once they ran out onto the oval it did not take long for the nerves to subside and the boys to kick into action.
The game started in overcast ,but very humid conditions, and is if it wasn’t hot enough the opening quarter was played at a frenetic pace. Both sides moved the ball from end to end at a rapid pace with EF taking advantage of their opportunities to kick 4 goals for the term. The second term saw us gain midfield dominance providing a lot of opportunities for our forwards who complimented the good work with a further 5 goals for the quarter. A solid lead was established by half-time.
As the temperature continued to rise , the pace of the game slowed in the second half, and it became a more even contest over the last couple of quarters. It was most pleasing to run out the game well and finish comfortable 67-point victors.
The boys showed some great ball movement and combined well across all zones of the oval to display some great signs for the matches ahead.
Riley Singleton, Daniel Cortez and Ben Wood all contributed 3 goals each , whilst Jack Annison worked tirelessy through the midfield, along with Kye Omerod and Drew Hughes who was relentless all day in defence.
The boys will take on Subiaco this Sunday afternoon (25th Feb) at 5pm at Fremantle Oval in what should be a great game of football.
