Futures Round 5 Wrap Up
Saturday saw us head to Revo Fitness Stadium to take on arch rival South Fremantle.
After an impressive performance the previous week the boys were quietly confident of a good showing against South.
It was a warm morning so it was important to make a good start as fatigue was bound to set in late in the game.
An even first quarter where both midfields battled for supremacy saw a tight contest with SF taking a one goal advantage into the break.
The second quarter saw the SF midfield take control as they won the contested ball at every opportunity and bullied us around the ball. With the control SF had, it allowed them to break the game open and go into the half as 19 point leaders.
South came out fired up after half time and registered an early goal within the first thirty seconds of the siren. Once again we struggled to win the ball and when we did, some basic skill errors caused us to turn the ball over too often.
Whilst we battled hard in the last quarter and produced a late surge, we could not get our system and game going without the skill errors, which in turn cost us dearly.
Harry Gale worked hard as a key forward with 2 goals, whilst Dylan Connelly continued his good form in defence and Cooper Ramsay worked tirelessly as ruckman, and finished his good work with a goal.
All in all, it was a bit of a reality check for the boys as they let their high standard slip in more ways than one.
This week we make the long trek north to play West Perth at Pentanet Stadium, 11am on Saturday.
