Round 18 - Reserves Wrap
The East Fremantle Reserves headed into their clash against Swan Districts on Saturday knowing that a loss would end their chances of making finals. Swans were sitting in 5th place, a game and percentage clear of the Sharks and they got the fast start that ended up setting up a big win.
Right from the first bounce, Swans took control and opened up a big quarter time lead after kicking 6 straight to 3 points. The Sharks desperately tried to close the gap in the 2nd quarter and had more inside 50s at the half but were wasteful in front of goals kicking 2.4 and trailed by 25 points.
Another tight 3rd quarter ensued but Swans extended their lead to 34 and it was going to take a monumental effort to turn it around. The first goal of the last was critical and it was Swans who nailed it and ran away with a big 57 point victory.
Better players for the Reserves were Enrique Aiken-Featherstone, who continued his good run of form collecting 28 disposals, 10 clearances and 4 tackles, Matt Burton, who had 23 disposals, 5 clearances and 6 inside 50s, Darcy Wills, who provided a strong contest up forward by taking 3 contested marks. Blake Luxton and Jayke Scott also made their Reserves debuts for the Sharks and performed admirably.
The Sharks next take on Claremont at Revo Stadium this Saturday at 11.40am.
