WAFL: SHARKS AIM TO STOP THE SLIDE AGAINST PEEL

East Fremantle returns to The Good Grocer Park this Saturday to host Peel Thunder in Round 14, with the Sharks desperate to arrest a form slump that has seen them slip down the ladder.

The Sharks were made to pay for a horror middle two quarters last start, surrendering an 18-point quarter-time lead to be run down by West Coast, going down 18.11 (119) to 12.8 (80) at Mineral Resources Park. Oskar Smartt and Kaiden Summerell both kicked two goals in a losing side that also got majors from Liam Robinson, Tom Joyce, Cam Eardley, Noah Dean, Zach Rankin, Harrison Marsh, Griffin Vladich and Phoenix Knight. Joyce, Eardley, Smartt, Marsh and Jack Cleaver were the Sharks’ best on a tough night.

Peel Thunder arrives at Shark Park full of running, having claimed an after-the-siren classic over Claremont last time out. Alex Riddle’s clutch goal sealed an 8.11 (59) to 8.8 (56) win after the Tigers had threatened to run away with it during a strong second-term burst. Jye Hewitt kicked two goals for the Thunder, with Bailey Banfield, Jaren Carr, Corey Wagner, Hugh Davies and Ali Sweid among the best afield.

Leading goalkicker Liam Robinson (24 goals, fourth on the League charts) and Oskar Smartt (22 goals, sixth) give the Sharks plenty of firepower to call on if they can get the ball forward, while Peel’s Charlie Nicholls (21 goals) and Corey Tregenza (19 goals) will look to make East Fremantle pay at the other end. With the Sharks needing a response and the Thunder buoyed by their gutsy win over the Tigers, this one shapes as anything but straightforward.

RESERVES: SHARKS HOST A THUNDER OUTFIT ON THE UP

East Fremantle’s Reserves take on Peel Thunder as part of Saturday’s big day at The Good Grocer Park, with the Thunder coming off a tough 11.5 (71) to 9.8 (62) loss to Claremont last start.

Aidan Harris and Levi Hutchinson kicked two goals apiece for Peel in that contest, with Harris, Liam Birch, Dylan Clarke, Toby Cossor and Aidan Caldow among their best. Dustin Walters (15 goals, fifth on the Reserves goalkicking table) leads Peel’s scoring this season and looms as a player East Fremantle’s defence will need to keep quiet.

East Fremantle reserves have endured a tough season with no wins on the table as of yet, this challenge proves decisive for the Reserves boys.

COLTS: YOUNG SHARKS HOST THE THUNDER

East Fremantle’s Colts kick off the day at The Good Grocer Park against a Peel Thunder side that went down 5.17 (47) to 5.8 (38) against Claremont last start, with Jayden Patton and Harry Crowe both booting two goals.

Trent Robertson leads the entire WAFL Colts goalkicking table with 24 majors this season and will be the Sharks’ most important cover job, while East Fremantle’s own Kye Ormerod (15 goals, fourth overall) and Isaac Boothey (11 goals) give the young Sharks plenty of scoreboard impact of their own.
