East Fremantle has produced a stunning late comeback to defeat Subiaco by three points, 10.11 (71) to 9.14 (68), in a thrilling first home game of the 2026 WAFL season at The Good Grocer Park.

In front of a fantastic crowd filled with families, community members and footy fans, the Sharks delivered a dramatic finish, with Liam Robinson kicking the match-winning goal with less than 30 seconds remaining to cap off an unforgettable afternoon.

The Sharks started strongly, kicking 2.3 to Subiaco’s 0.2 in the opening term before taking a narrow 4.4 (28) to 3.7 (25) lead into half-time. The third quarter turned into an arm wrestle, with both sides trading goals, before Subiaco edged in front heading into the final change.

Despite controlling large parts of the game statistically, East Fremantle found themselves trailing late in the final quarter, with Subiaco appearing to have done enough to hold on. However, in a frantic final minute, the Sharks surged forward one last time, with Robinson stepping up to slot a clutch goal and steal victory in front of the home crowd.

East Fremantle finished with 322 disposals to Subiaco’s 304, including a 192–175 advantage in kicks, while also recording 130 handballs. Around the contest, the Sharks held their own with 17 free kicks to 15, despite Subiaco winning the hit-outs (44–38) and narrowly leading inside 50s (46–45).

The key difference came from efficiency. The Sharks made the most of their opportunities, kicking at 47.62% accuracy compared to Subiaco’s 39.13%, despite having fewer scoring shots (21 to 23).

Robinson was the hero, finishing with 4 goals, including the match-winner, in a standout performance up forward.
Jack Cleaver was outstanding with 27 disposals, 7 tackles and 2 goals, while Kyle Baskerville (23 disposals, 10 tackles) and Tom Joyce (20 disposals, 8 tackles) were instrumental through the midfield.
Harrison Marsh (21 disposals, 2 goals) and Cameron Eardley (21 disposals, 2 goals) also played key roles in both build-up and scoreboard impact.

It was a win built on resilience, composure and belief, with the Sharks refusing to give in.

In front of a vibrant home crowd and a buzzing atmosphere, it was the perfect way to open the season at The Good Grocer Park — a moment that will be remembered.
