East Fremantle kicks off its 2026 WAFL campaign this Friday afternoon, travelling to Lane Group Stadium to take on Peel Thunder in what shapes as an intriguing Round 1 clash.
There’s plenty of familiarity between the two sides, with the Sharks holding a strong recent record in the matchup. East Fremantle has won four of the last five meetings against Peel, including a dominant Grand Final performance in 2023 and a convincing victory the last time the sides met in 2025.
However, Round 1 presents a fresh challenge.
Peel Thunder will again look to be bolstered by AFL-listed talent from the Fremantle Dockers, with several potential inclusions capable of having a major impact. Their presence adds another layer of unpredictability and quality, making Peel a dangerous opponent at home.
For the Sharks, this match marks the beginning of a new chapter.
Following an off-season of change, East Fremantle will unveil a refreshed lineup with a different look and feel heading into 2026. With new faces, evolving roles, and a renewed game style, the group will be eager to set the tone early and make a strong statement to open the season.
It also shapes as a big day across the club.
The Colts kick things off on Thursday night, while Friday features a full day of action at Lane Group Stadium:
Futures: 8:15am
Reserves: 10:25am
League: 1:10pm
WAFLW: 4:00pm
Rogers Cup: 6:05pm
With all grades in action, the Sharks will be looking to build momentum across the entire program heading into Round 1.
Adding to the occasion, this fixture marks the first Sullivan Logistics WAFL match of the 2026 season, bringing a fresh energy and new-look competition into focus.
A strong start on the road would be the perfect way to launch the campaign — but Peel, particularly with AFL reinforcements, will ensure the Sharks need to be at their best from the first bounce.
