This week saw the next generation of WAFLW talent take centre stage as the Regional Junior Female Carnival lit up Millington Reserve in Scarborough across Monday and Tuesday.

The carnival, held at the picturesque home of the Scarborough Football Club, brought together over 100 of the state’s most promising U17 athletes in a celebration of skill, development, and opportunity.

Regional Teams from Subiaco Lions, Peel Thunder, and West Perth competed alongside East Fremantle’s Regional and Metro squads, which featured a mix of Rogers Cup and Women’s Futures players. The standard of football across both days was exceptional, highlighting the strength and depth of junior female talent emerging from across Western Australia.

The event was the brainchild of WAFLW Head of Operations Darcy Meyers, who played a key role in pulling the carnival together.

A special thanks goes to:

  • Scarborough Football Club for generously hosting the event and supporting the players and staff

  • All coaches and volunteers who guided and encouraged their teams across the two days

  • Claire Garnaut and Nat Marwick for their  coordination of the event.

  • Harry Taylor for his coordination of the carnival.

  • Angelo Cuccovia for his sponsorship and continued support of female football.

  • And to Mid West Academy of Sport (MWAS) for their vital role in the event’s delivery

Events like this carnival play a vital role in the ongoing development of female football, offering young athletes a platform to compete, grow, and connect. Congratulations to all involved for making it such a memorable and meaningful two days.

The future of WAFLW is looking very bright.
