WAFLW: SHARKS CHASE RESPONSE AGAINST STRUGGLING ROYALS
East Fremantle hosts at The Good Grocer Park this Sunday for a Round 15 clash against East Perth, with the Sharks eager to arrest a two-game slide as the home-and-away season enters its business end.
The Sharks head into the contest off the back of a 27-point defeat to ladder-leading Swan Districts, a result that followed a gutsy three-point loss to Claremont the week before. Despite finding themselves in early trouble against the Swans, East Fremantle showed plenty of fight in the third quarter, and will be looking for a full four-quarter effort this week to get back among the wins.
East Perth arrives at Shark Park in the midst of a difficult stretch of their own, having dropped five straight matches to sit eighth on the ladder. The Royals were unable to trouble Perth last time out, going down by 39 points, and will be desperate to arrest their own form slump against a Sharks outfit hunting a response.
East Fremantle will again lean on the experience of Jae Flynn, who was strong afield against the Swans with 22 disposals and 10 tackles, while Chloe Colegate (21 disposals) and Amber Kinnane (18 disposals, 12 tackles) continue to provide drive through the midfield. Up forward, 16-year Lara Fuller has been in electric touch, booting three goals last time out, and will be a key focal point again this week.
ROGERS CUP: SHARKS LOOK TO BOUNCE BACK ON THE ROAD
The Sharks’ Rogers Cup side will be looking to bounce back after its own tough outing against Swan Districts last time out, going down by four goals.
Ella Banting, Bella Godecke, Lucinta Akerman, Ainslie Keady and Kai Clucas were among the best for the Sharks in that contest, while Godecke, Jada Tames, Lloydessa Kwilla and Chloe Palmer all found the goals.
East Fremantle will be looking to bring more consistency to their four quarters this week against an East Perth outfit that will provide a good measure of where the young Sharks are placed heading toward the pointy end of the season.
