East Fremantle produced a dominant four-quarter performance to secure a strong Round 2 victory over Peel Thunder, running out convincing 9.5 (59) to 3.1 (19) winners at Lane Group Stadium.
After a tough opening round, the Sharks responded in the best possible way, controlling the game from start to finish and showcasing their class around the contest and efficiency going forward.
The opening term set the tone for the afternoon, with East Fremantle edging ahead early and taking a narrow lead into quarter-time. From there, the Sharks began to take control, lifting their intensity around the ball and capitalising on their opportunities. A four-goal second quarter proved the turning point, as East Fremantle broke the game open and took a commanding advantage into half-time.
The dominance continued after the main break, with the Sharks winning the inside 50 count (46-29) and controlling possession across the ground, finishing with an impressive 325 disposals to Peel’s 217. Their ability to move the ball cleanly and maintain pressure ensured the Thunder struggled to generate scoring opportunities, managing just four scoring shots for the game.
Noa McNaughton was outstanding and rightly named best on ground, delivering a complete performance through the midfield. She finished with 29 disposals and two goals, consistently driving the ball forward and hitting the scoreboard to cap off a brilliant individual display.
There were also strong contributions across the ground, with Mack Webb impressing in her club debut. Webb provided a strong presence and composure around the contest, showing promising signs in her first appearance in Sharks colours.
Jae Flynn continued her strong form with 21 disposals, while Meg McAullay (22 disposals) and Mylee Leitch (18 disposals and a goal) were influential in linking play and maintaining momentum for East Fremantle throughout the match. Zoe Kelely also had an impact, working hard around stoppages and contributing on both sides of the ball.
On the scoreboard, the Sharks shared the load, with Eve Wilson-Sieber leading the way with three goals in a lively performance up forward. Jasmine Johansen and Noa McNaughton both finished with two goals, while Sienna Jezierski-Brown and Olivia McCay also hit the scoreboard to round out a well-balanced attacking display.
Defensively, East Fremantle were equally impressive, restricting Peel to just 3.1 for the match and applying consistent pressure to limit their ball movement and scoring opportunities.
It was a complete team performance from the Sharks, combining strong midfield dominance, efficient ball use, and a potent forward line to record an important early-season win.
With confidence now building, East Fremantle will look to carry this momentum into the coming rounds as they continue to develop and grow as a group.
