Sharks Book WAFLW Grand Final Spot in Extra-Time Thriller
East Fremantle are through to their fourth ATCO WAFLW Grand Final in five years after a thrilling extra-time victory over Claremont at Revo Fitness Stadium on Sunday.
Captain Tiani Teakle was the hero, slotting the match-winning golden goal in a stunning finish to send the Sharks into the decider.
Usually stationed in defence, Teakle pushed forward when her team needed her most, producing just the 16th goal of her 54-game WAFLW career – and undoubtedly the most important.
The Sharks led the contest the majority of the day, despite trailing significantly in possesions and scoring shots. It was the Shark’s accuracy in front of goals that helped maintain their lead and enter the fourth quarter up by 4 goals.
Some last quarter heroics by Claremont saw them whittle down the lead, kicking 4 goals in the first ten minutes of the last.
However after four hard-fought quarters, neither side could be separated, with the scores locked at 38 apiece and extra time required to decide the contest.
The Sharks held their nerve when it mattered most, with Teakle finding the big sticks to seal an unforgettable victory and book East Fremantle’s place in the Grand Final.

East Fremantle will now face minor premiers Swan Districts in the ATCO WAFLW Grand Final at Fremantle Community Bank Oval on Sunday, August 23.
The Sharks were well served by Zoe Keley, who produced a brilliant performance in the ruck, while Mack Webb was outstanding in defence against her former side.
Last week’s match-winning hero Jae Flynn continued her outstanding finals form, working tirelessly across the ground, while Eve Wilson-Seiber was also influential with her pressure and forward-half work.
It caps off a remarkable season for the Sharks, who now have the opportunity to claim WAFLW premiership glory on the biggest stage.
Rogers Cup Sharks Through to Grand Final
It was a huge day for East Fremantle, with the Sharks also booking their place in the HART Sport Rogers Cup Grand Final.
