16s Squad Match Report vs Perth Demons
The East Fremantle 16s squad had their fixture against Perth on Saturday afternoon at Shark Park after coming off a bye. In perfect conditions both sides had only been defeated once, so this match was going to be a battle of the best.
From the first bounce we hit the ground running with some brilliant tap work from Rueben McGuire to midfielder Trey Ruscoe to get the ball forward, but Perth rebounded strongly to hit the score board first. The Sharks soon responded with goals from Sean Henley and Josh Goodwin with some quick ball movement from stoppages. The boys had a good first quarter being very accurate in front of the big sticks kicking 4 straight to Perth’s 3.4.
The Sharks missed a few opportunities in the second quarter, kicking 6 goals 4 but held Perth to 1 goal with some excellent defence work from Josh Harris-Walker, Jai Jackson, Darcey Rowe and Ben Wardle. Trent Rivers and Tristian Crouch were very creative with the football and provided run and carry.
After the half time break it was back to business for the sharks. We were again a little wayward in front of goal and some costly turnovers hurt us with Perth having scoring opportunities. Hayden Redmond and Tristian crouch were very good when in and under for the ball and Tom Denton showed some run and carry from half back.
In the final quarter the Sharks defended well and worked as a team with the movement of the footy. Jeremy Sharp, Sean Henley and Trey Ruscoe were brilliant through the middle and created opportunities up forward. The Sharks kicked 3.3 to Perth’s 2.1 to come out as victors in what was a solid game.
Goals – Wood 2, Henley 2, Ruscoe 1, Wardle (#30) 1, Goodwin 1, Sharp 1, Warner 1 and McPartland 1.
Best – McGuire, Henley, Crouch, Ruscoe, Rivers and Harris-Walker.
