Wednesday, July 19, 2017 - 8:55 AM

East Fremantle have notched their second win for the 2017 season, with a 16-point victory over Perth, celebrating Jayden Schofield’s 100th game in style.

In slippery, windy conditions, it was Perth who opened with the first goal, but East Fremantle responded quickly with one of their own from George Hampson. Matthew Watson booted his first of four first goals, while Dion Anthony also got one on the board. The Demons managed another goal before Cam Eardley made the most of a 50-metre penalty, taking the Sharks lead to 12 points at quarter time.

Watson starred in the second term, booting all three of the Sharks goals and helping extend the lead to 22 points and the main break, however injuries to youngsters Burton and Harrold reduced the bench to just two for the remainder of the game.

Jonathon Marsh hit the score board in his first game back since round 11, with consecutive goals to open the third quarter. A soccer goal from Andrew Stephen and a beautiful mark and goal from Jack Perham in the pocket, gave the Sharks a 35-point advantage going into the final term.

Perth came out firing in the fourth and a comeback looked imminent but the Sharks managed to hold on, despite missing a number of opportunities in front of goals.

Schofield continued his impressive form in game 100, finishing with 20 disposals, 12 kicks and 2 tackles.

Sean Henson collected a team high 32 disposals while Cam Eardley continues to be a major ball winner for the Sharks with 31 possessions.

Marsh slotted straight back into the line-up, with 17 disposals, 9 kicks and 7 marks and Dion Anthony was also strong with 26 possessions, 15 kicks and 11 handballs.

Despite the win, the Sharks sit 0.08% behind Perth and will need some strong performances to move from the bottom spot with 5 games to go.

Unfortunately, the Development League couldn’t to get over the line, going down by 18-points.

It was an even contest for the first half with East Fremantle trailing by just 3-points at the main break.  Perth blew open their lead in the third term and despite a strong final quarter from the Sharks, the comeback was too late.

Alex Montauban was strong for East Fremantle, kicking 3 goals from 15 disposals and laying ten tackles while Tyler Sorrell also finished with 3. Josh Cuneo was good in his return to the Development League with 22 disposals, as was Carl Green (24 possessions) in his first game back since round 11.  Ben Harding to continues to find a lot of the ball, with a game high 33 disposals, 21 kicks and 5 tackles.

The Colts added another impressive win to their season, beating Perth by 74-points to sit a game clear on the top of the ladder.

The boys had a slow first term but recovered quickly in the second, kicking 5 goals while holding the opposition scoreless. They produced another 5-goal quarter in the third and added another two in the final term.

Joshua Ritchie and Drew Blurton finished with three goals apiece, Dillon O'Reilly, Nelson Aranda and Dwayne Nevill kicked two, while Tim Bockman and Corey Robinson added one each.

Nick Patat, Zac Wilkinson, Tom Eastaugh and Tom Joyce were amongst the squads best, but it was certainly a team effort.

The Sharks have the weekend to freshen up, before hosting Subiaco on the 29th of July.
