Round 12 Preview | Claremont
Tomorrow’s fixtures sees East Fremantle taking on Claremont, the first game at their new state of the art facility.
After last week’s devastating Derby loss, the Sharks have only a 5-day turnaround to move forward, while the Tigers have had three weeks to reflect on their own after a string of losses prior to their break.
The coaching staff have reacted swiftly after Monday’s loss, with 9 changes to the team that was beaten convincingly by South Fremantle. Up to four Sharks could make their league debuts against The Tigers; Ben Harding, Lachy Bailey, Matt Burton and Michael Cronan. Into the 25 this week also comes Timmy Bristow, Josh Cuneo, Corey Holmes, Tom Marshall, Jesse Mirco, Jack Perham and Sam Read.
Harding and Burton are great reflections of the Sharks development program. Coming through the talent pathway, both made their way into the colt’s side. The pair have made a smooth transition into senior football this year, playing dominant roles for the development league. The addition of 2016 Colt’s Best and Fairest Burton, and ball magnet Harding, will be important inclusions for the Sharks. Bailey joined the club once he finished year 12, having commitments to PSA during his schooling. After two years with the colts, Bailey has also made a smooth transition into senior football this year and has earned his spot in this week’s league side. Cronan played two years in colts before progressing to the senior side in 2016. Registering only 8 games last year, Cronan hasn’t missed a match for the Development League this season, continually learning and developing his ruck role as well as managing two goals.
Thirteen Sharks have already made their league debut this season, with that number increasing to 17 if all four boys play.
With a number of injuries to senior players, the Sharks hope youthful exuberance will be the point of difference.
