Sharks v Subi | Match Preview

Friday, May 19, 2017 - 3:11 PM

The Sharks have a lot to prove when they take on ladder leaders Subiaco at Leederville Oval tomorrow.

After a devastating loss last weekend to East Perth, The Sharks are desperate to notch their first win against an in-form Lions side.

Despite the odds, The Sharks have previously managed to overcome the favourites, including an 80-point win in round 8 last year.

Several changes have been made to this week’s side, with Josh Cuneo, Joel Kalajzic, Jesse Mirco and Tom Omodei coming into the 25. Jye Clements and Zac McCarrey will make their League Debut tomorrow after dominant performances in the Development League, bring the number of debutants to 11 this season.

Zac played 29 colts games at EFFC in 2011 and 2012, including the Grand Final team that lost to South Freo that year. Study and work commitments forced him to play community football both in the city and in the country before he made the call to coach Rob Wiley to do a preseason. A strong marking forward who can play both tall and small, Zac hits the contest hard and will provide forward pressure.

Jye is another great story of persistence and strong desire. After arriving at the Sharks mid-2016, Jye played 4 games of colts in the back half of the year before asking for an opportunity to train with the seniors during the 2017 preseason.

The man with the “do” showed tremendous work ethic throughout the preseason which has been evident in his games at development league level for the Sharks this season.  His ability to work hard, run hard and play for the team has been recognised by the coaching staff and he deservedly gets his chance against the Lions. Jye has also shown the knack for kicking goals and is currently the leading goal kicker for the Sharks development league side with 13.5 for the season.

The Development League will be looking to continue their winning run tomorrow when they take on the Lions.

With a number of boys progressing to the league side, some colts may have the opportunity to play senior football.

The top of the table Colts moved a game clear last week after their win against the Royals. The Sharks have been playing some great football but will need to work hard against a strong Subiaco side.

The League match will be broadcast of 7MATE from 1.30pm.

Due to the coverage, please note this week's game times

Development League: 10.55 am
