The AOS Development Squad Round 2 Report

Friday, September 30, 2016 - 11:58 AM by Andrew Dodd

The AOS Development squads had their second fixture yesterday against the Perth Demons at ATOM Stadium on a sunny Spring day. The day started with the 8Bs at 9am followed by the 9Bs, 8As, 9As and finished with the year 10s.

The Year 8Bs started off the day against Perth with some great efforts from our midfield but that was short lived as Perth rebounded and scored. Will Johnson did very well holding up our defence during the game with some excellent effort down back. Cooper Vinicombe displayed some tremendous work through the middle and Callum Grant worded extremely hard in the forward line coming away with a goal. Kade Smith was also a standout for the Sharks with his team work and skills. Perth were too fast for our boys and their forward line worked quite well. From our game against South Fremantle our 8Bs have improved which is a great sign going into our next fixture.

Goals: W. Fransden, R. Hughes and C. Grant
Best: C. Vinicombe, W. Johnson and K. Smith
EFFC – 3.1.19
PFC – 11.16.82

The Year 9Bs had a slow start to their game but had some great midfield work by Ethan Jimmieson and Adam Calder who worked tirelessly. Jaime Baleu and Ethan Drake-Brockman were also standouts off half back with their runs. Perth again had some fast run and forward pressure and in the end were too good for our boys. To our credit there was improvement from our last game which is a real positive for their upcoming game against East Perth.
Goals: E. Brown, J. Little and B. Hughes
Best: J. Baleu, E. Jimmieson and E. Drake-Brockman
EFFC – 3.1.19
PF – 12.13.85

The Year 8As were outstanding from start to finish against Perth. Our Midwest boys Jack Carrol, Campbell Tirant and Edward Curley were pin point accurate in front of goal which contributed to our big score. Brandon walkers run off half back to forward numerous times was magic, and resulted in a number of scoring opportunities. Caleb Paparone, Tyson Burns and Joshua Gray were excellent through the middle and Josh Stedmans fantastic work in the ruck which gave our midfield plenty of the football.
Goals: J. Carrol 3, C. Tirant 3, E. Curley 2, J. Browne 2, T. Burns 2, B. Walker 2, C. Paparone 1, J. Gray 1, J Stedman 1.
Best: J. Carrol, J. Browne and T. Burns.
EFFC – 17.14.116
PFC – 0.2.2

The Year 9As had a big win against Perth which was due to their team work and ball use through the middle. Tristan Crouch and Bailey Hodges’ ball execution was outstanding and contributed to our number of goal kickers. It was hard to stop our boys with big bodied forwards Trey Ruscoe and Lachlan McGrath being instrumental up forward and also in the ruck. Mid-West players Ethan Chick Bohan Teakle and Johnny Narkle were excellent with Ethans defensive work being brilliant with his chase downs and hard tackles. Michael Perrott, Trent Rivers and Jordan Randall were also excellent with their ball use from half back.
Goals: T. Ruscoe 4, J. Randall 2, T. Rivers 2, B. Hodge 2, J. Narkle 1, L. Pigram 1, S. Ryan 1, B. Teakle 1, L. Jackson 1, M. Perrott 1, R. Sutherland 1.
Best: L. McGrath, T. Crouch and B. Hodge.
EFFC – 17.14.116
PFC – 2.4.16

The Year 10 squad had a slow start to the game with Perth scoring almost immediately. The team had 9 changes to the side in which the players had to adapt too. Our skills were average in the first half and we didn’t look comfortable. Luke Dobson and Sam Whitaker were excellent off half back but our midfield struggled to go forward with no real forward presence coming from the Sharks. Tarquin Mercer stepped up in the second half as our forward prospect and did well as did Sam McKinnon. Mid-West player Michael Wright was outstanding with his ball use and his decision making was excellent. The boys fought hard in the last quarter hitting the lead, but a few defensive errors cost us and the boys fell short by one point.

Goals: S. McKinnon 3, T. Mercer 3.
Best: L. Dobson, S. Whitaker and M. Wright
EFFC – 6.10.46
PFC – 7.5.47

Our next fixture is against East Perth on Tuesday 4th October at ATOM Stadium, kicking off at 9am.
